With the NHS celebrating its sixtieth anniversary, this year´s Chief Scientific Conference will be highlighting the contribution of healthcare scientists to its success and looking forward to the science and challenges likely in the next sixty years.
The conference aims to provide the key platform for promoting healthcare scientists and the part science plays in more effective healthcare delivery. This year´s event will be hosted once again by science broadcaster Vivienne Parry and speakers include the Government's Chief Scientific Advisor, Professor John Beddington, Dame Nancy Rothwell and 'Quirkologist' Professor Richard Wiseman, as well as senior Department of Health officials and ministers.
The CSO Awards, which this year include a number of new categories as well as the prestigious Healthcare Scientist of the Year will take place on the evening of 25th November. The categories and application form can be accessed at http://www.agoralive.com/nhs60.
The seven awards categories are as follows:
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Healthcare Scientist of the Year
- Young Healthcare Scientist of the Year
- Service Transformation
- Healthcare Science Ambassador(s) of the Year

- Innovation in Research and Development
Please note that ALL nominations must be summited by 5pm on Friday 31st October, 2008.
Topics for the programme include plenaries covering the Next Stage Review of the NHS, research and innovation, science futures and building a worldclass workforce as well as workshops and the opportunity to network.
