Federation for Healthcare Science: statement on associate practitioners
The NHS Career Framework is being used to guide the development of education and training, and to help introduce new roles including associate roles. The purpose of this statement is to identify some of the key issues that will help professional staff and employers develop effective healthcare scientist roles at Associate level. The content was developed from a workshop held by the Federation for Healthcare Science in 2007 which was attended by a wide range of healthcare science professionals.

The Department of Health has formally launched the healthcare scientists
career pathway. The new career pathway will have a profound effect
on the professional lives of all healthcare scientists by supporting
the workforce in fulfilling their potential and establishing clearly
defined, nationally consistent progression pathways.

Major project on healthcare science education and training
under Skills for Health
Skills for Health are the body charged with developing
and maintaining qualifications for the NHS. Following development
of National Occupational Standards. A project has been set up to
look at the awards and qualifications framework for healthcare scientists,
and at how the National Occupational Standards can be built into
existing and new roles.
The Federation has representation on the Project Steering Board,
which is jointly chaired by Sue Hill, Chief Scientific Officer,
and Nic Greenfield, Deputy HR Director at the Department of Health.
